mathleague.org is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the eighth annual National Championship for elementary students on June 19, 2021 in our online testing environment.

Participation

In each state where mathleague.org held a State Championship in 2021, certain high-scoring students are qualified to participate in the National Championship; details for how to qualify can be found here. Registration for this contest is only open to students who qualify, who are given a special invitation as described in our March 31 health alert message, or who are selected off the waiting list to replace qualified students who are unable to attend. To ensure a seat at the contest, eligible students must register by June 12; after June 12, if space is available, students will be invited from the waiting list to replace qualified students who have not yet registered. To join the waiting list, please send an email to customercare@mathleague.org indicating which students from your school would like to attend the contest if space is available. The contest fee will be $15 per student if paid online by June 12 or $20 per student after June 12, and students must pre-register for the contest by clicking the link below. Your confirmation email will indicate how to make payment for the contest.

To see a list of students from your state who have qualified for the National Championship, go to our results page, select your State Championship from the drop-down menu, and click the "qualifiers to next level" link. Contact us at customercare@mathleague.org if your school had two or more students in the same grade with the same initials and you need help determining which student(s) qualified for the National Championship. Also be sure to let us know if you find any mistakes in the list so we can make sure everyone who qualified for the National Championship shows up on the list of qualifiers. We will be sending invitations to all students who qualified or who are eligible for a special invitation, but if you are eligible to attend the contest you do not need to wait for this invitation before registering.

Please note that only students who have prepaid online may attend this contest. Each participant must have a designated adult chaperone who will be physically present at the same location as the student to facilitate the student's participation in the contest, proctor the student during the tests, and help students make sure their answers get submitted properly. If multiple students are present in the same location, they may share a chaperone as long as that chaperone can fulfill the duties required on behalf of all students in their care. Testing

Written testing will consist of Number Sense, Target, Sprint, and Team rounds. Participants are expected to bring their own pencils and calculators. Participants will be sent a link to the Zoom meeting around 1:45pm Eastern Time on the day of the contest, and participants will be held in a waiting room until 2:00pm. The first half hour before testing will be spent making sure students get checked into our system, verifying cameras and names, and helping with tech support issues. Testing is expected to start at 2:30pm Eastern Time.

While in the online meeting room, all participants MUST have a working camera and be visible on camera throughout the testing WITHOUT an artificial background. In addition, all students must be listed under their real name in the participants list. Violators will be removed from the testing environment with no refunds and no opportunity to make up the test. Please note that failure to pay attention to this rule is not an excuse for violating it, and failure to have been caught violating this rule at a previous contest is not an excuse for violating it at this contest.

After testing is over, there will be a break before the awards ceremony. Students will have the option of participating in one or more activities during the break if they wish. Details will be provided the day of the contest.

If your students cannot test at the designated time for religious or health reasons that can be verified by documentation from clergy or a physician, please contact us for more information about how we can accommodate the affected students.

Awards

Prizes will be given to the top ten students in each grade level, as well as to the top six teams in each division, and will be announced at an awards ceremony on the evening of June 19. The awards ceremony will begin at 8:00pm Eastern Time on June 19. In addition to announcing the winners, we will also be holding a Countdown Round and perhaps some other surprises. Plan on the awards ceremony taking at least an hour.

We will be awarding a $1000 scholarship to the winner of the Countdown Round; details and a description of how students are selected for the Countdown Round can be found at this link.

For those students who win prizes, we will be in touch with their chaperones to arrange delivery of the prizes. Prizes will include trophies similar to those we awarded at the National Championship last year.

Preparation

Practice tests are available for purchase at the mathleague.org store if you would like to prepare for the contest (one set of tests is available for free download on our site as well). For schools that did not get a copy of the State Championship questions and would like to review those to practice for the National Championship, please let us know once you have registered for the contest and we will email a copy of the questions to you.

Souvenirs

Want to order a t-shirt for this year's National Championship? We'll be selling shirts with the mathleague.org logo on the front and information about the National Championship on the back. To order shirts, simply fill out the order form and submit payment by June 5. For each shirt, specify the quantity and size as well as a shipping address. All shirts are $15 regardless of size; this price includes shipping within the US. We expect shirts will be delivered sometime in July. We are aware that many of you received your shirts unacceptably late last year, and we have improved our logistics to ensure you receive your shirts by the end of July. If we fail to deliver on time, we promise to send an update, a discount coupon, and an option to cancel your order if you wish.

We will also be selling this years book of tests (sets 12120 to 12129) after the National Championship. Participants will be given an opportunity to purchase these books for a discount until the end of June.
