ARML 2011 Information - Wild Wild West (Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming)

Mailing List - Practices - Permission Slip

Students planning to go to ARML this year need to send a notarized permission slip, along with a check for $200 (made out to Math League), to PO Box 111, Sparta WI 54656. You may also pay online by clicking the button below; either way, make sure participant's name is attached to the payment, and make sure to mail the permission slip as soon as possible. Any student whose payment is received by April 30 will be guaranteed a spot on the team, after which positions will be filled on a rolling basis until the team is full or ARML's internal deadline passes, whichever is earlier.

ARML Team:

Letter to Prospective Students

mathleague.org is recruiting a team of talented math students to represent several western states (Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming) as a "Wild Wild West" team at the national ARML competition, and we would like to invite you to submit an application to be on this year's team. We will be competing at the American Regions Mathematics League national contest in Las Vegas this June. This year's ARML meet is scheduled for June 3 and 4 at the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. This year's contest conflicts with an SAT test date, so students who had planned to take the June SAT will need to make alternate arrangements. The easiest solution is simply to schedule the SAT for another test date, but students who have no choice but to take the test in June may go to http://www.arml.com/sat_2011.php for details on how to reschedule their test around ARML.

The cost of the program this year will be $200, which covers registration, housing Friday night at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, and a team T-shirt. You will be responsible for your meals, as well as any additional spending money you wish to bring. Many school districts pay part or all of a student's expenses to attend the ARML meet. Feel free to seek funding from your local district; if you are accepted onto the team mathleague.org can prepare an official invitation letter to assist in securing funding if you would like to pursue this option. Please note that the registration fee does not specifically cover transportation to Las Vegas, but we will have several registration and travel scholarships available for students in underrepresented states; if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, simply check the financial aid box on your ARML application and we will let you know by April 23 whether you have been awarded one of these scholarships.

Your application for participation will be due by April 16. You may apply online at http://mathleague.org/armlapp.php. Accepted students will be notified by April 23 and will need to submit a permission slip and the $200 fee by April 30. If your parents are interested in transporting you or other students to the test site in Las Vegas, have them fill out an application form as well so we can work out the appropriate details with them. Specific transportation details will be arranged once we have an idea of who will be attending.

This letter is being sent to all AIME qualifiers in your state, but we are certainly interested in recruiting additional students and can use your help identifying students who may be good candidates for this program. Please direct any interested students to our website or have them contact us for more information. Once we know who is attending from which states, we will organize students into 15-member teams to compete at ARML.

For more information about the ARML program, feel free to check out the ARML webpage at http://www.arml.com. Once you have been accepted onto the team we will send details about transportation and notify you of any team practices to be held in your area between now and the competition. Attending practices is an important part of the ARML process; and as such you will be expected to attend practices held in May if you live close enough to attend practices. If you have any questions, we can be reached at 866-387-6284, or by email at mathleague@mathleague.org. Congratulations on your mathematical achievements this year; we look forward to your participation on this year's team!
