Policy on California as Two States
Due to California's disproportionately large size relative to the other states, mathleague.org treats California as two completely distinct states for all record-keeping purposes. This change went into effect on July 1, 2019.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA is defined to be the Counties of San Luis Obispo, Kern, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Imperial. Southern California will be assigned the two-letter abbreviation CS.
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA is defined to be the Counties of Monterey, Kings, Tulare, and Inyo, together with all California Counties that lie entirely north of any part of these Counties. Northern California will be assigned the two-letter abbreviation CN.
