Power Question contest

mathleague.org offers a mail-in Power Question contest that is available to schools regardless of location. The Power Question is a multi-part question that a team of 6 large school students or 3 small school students works on for an hour. Large and small schools are given different tests, and it is possible to earn up to 100 points on the Power Question. Calculators are allowed.

The mathleague.org Power Question contest consists of two tiers. The first round will occur between January 15 and March 15 of this school year. Participating schools will be allowed to take the first Power Question anytime during this window. Any school scoring at least 50 on the first round will be allowed to compete in the second round. The second round will consist of a different Power Question, and schools will have a seven-day window beginning on April 11, 2024 in which to take the test. The cumulative score for both rounds of the Power Question will be used to determine large and small school winners of the Power Question contest.

Participation in the Power Question contest is tied to mathleague.org membership. In order to register for the Power Question contest, your school needs to register as a mathleague.org member. Member schools are allowed one free entry in the Power Question contest. If a school would like to enroll more than one team in the Power Question contest, they may do so by paying an additional fee as described on our website.
